Recently acquired the beautiful First Day cover of the USS Constitution which was released on the occasion of the 150 Anniversary of Launching on October 21, 1947
USS Constitution, also known as Old Ironsides, is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat.She was launched on October 21,1797, one of six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and the third constructed. The name "Constitution" was among ten names submitted to President George Washington by Secretary of War Timothy Pickering in March of 1795 for the frigates that were to be constructed
The FDC has address of Melvyn W. Maynert ,He was born in Providence he was the son of the late William and Anna (Erler) Maynert.
Mr. Maynert was the co-owner of the former William F. Miller Corp. retiring in 1986 when he moved to Florida and became a resident there for 23 years before moving back to RI. He also served 41/2 years in the Army of which 35 months was in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
